Staying Steadfast in the Truth

written by Amber

I remember at the tender age of thirteen, I decided that I was going to remain a virgin until the day that I got married. It wasn’t because I admired God’s command to remain chaste, or wanted to be holy as he was holy. My idol at the time was a popular singer who had waited to have sex until her wedding day and I wanted to be just like her. (This speaks so much further in to the influence that public figures and social media have on today’s youth, but I digress. That’s for a whole different blog post.)

Thankfully I’ve grown and matured, understanding the reason for why I am waiting. It’s about more than idolizing a physical state of the body or flaunting a purity ring to tell others about what a good girl I am. It may have helped me in the past, but being KEPT by the Holy Spirit and standing on the truth of God’s word is now what sustains me in my decision to wait. The funny thing is that I had friends who made the same vow, who decided to take the same route in waiting, yet many of them changed their minds or decided that it wasn’t as big of a deal as we’d made it out to be.

It prompts me further in thinking, what lies are we entertaining that have the potential to change the trajectory of our lives?

In Genesis 3:1-6 Eve is convinced that what God has told her about the tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden is not true. The serpent initially asks her what God has said about all of the fruit trees in the garden, and she tells him that they can eat freely of any tree, with the exception of the one in the middle. If she and her husband Adam ate from or touched it, they would die. The serpent convinces her that she won’t die, but in fact become more like God! She would be wise and know the differences between good and evil.

We all know how this ends, Adam and Eve find out that they’re naked, they’re ashamed and God sends them out of the garden among many other things as punishment for what they have done.

What blows my mind is that Eve knew exactly what God had said and believed him…until someone convinced her otherwise. How many times have we known what God has said, or reminded us of in his word, only to be convinced otherwise? I believe that my friends and I may have had the same convictions concerning our virginity but when we were tested and tried, some buckled under the pressure, presentation and pleasure of a lie.

Some of us have given up our bodies, in spite of God’s desire for us to wait on him to bring forth our husbands or wives. Some of us have thrown away God given dreams and aspirations because we’ve been convinced that it won’t happen or pan out the way God has planned. Some of us simply never believed in what God had for us, and it took no convincing at all, we were already living with the voice of a lie.

The good news is that there is forgiveness provided for all of us who are willing to admit that we are wrong and to turn away from our wrong doing. It’s as simple as saying, “God I know that I haven’t done right by you concerning ________. Please forgive me for believing in ________ more than believing in you. Abba, as I confess this sin to you, please help me to turn away from it completely, focusing on you and living out the truth that you’ve designed for my life.”

Adam and Eve may have been driven from the Garden of Eden because of their decision, but God never left them and continued to give them encouragement and guidance throughout their lives. And he will never leave or forsake us either! Be encouraged and steadfast in what you know to be true!

Love you!

Holiday Blues

written by Amber

It is so important to remember the heartache and pain that some associate with the holidays. Some of our family members have transitioned on from this life to the next, joining the Lord in eternity. Some family members have voluntarily left, pursuing another family, another lifestyle. Some of our families have pushed us a way, making the executive decision to remove us from their everyday lives. Some are experiencing hardship that they could have never imagined or prepared for, while others are struggling to find the strength to get up each day and thank God, in spite of the sadness that greets them each day. Some of us have family members who are with us physically, but have checked out emotionally years ago.

No matter the situation or circumstance, I want you to know that God loves you and wants to give you the strength to experience peace this holiday.

In Ephesians 3:16-19, the Bible says “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”

The apostle Paul is encouraging us in the faith to allow God to strengthen us. In allowing God to strengthen us it brings about peace and a relationship more deeply rooted in Christ’s love and affirmation.

So be kind to yourself this holiday and cry out to the Lord about your situation and circumstances. He longs to free you from the heartache and pain that sometimes comes with life’s growing pains.

Love you!

Living in Spiritual Darkness

Living in Spiritual Darkness

written by Amber

I remember being afraid of the dark until I was about twenty years old. I remember shutting off all of the lights in my little one bedroom apartment and running back to my bed and hiding under the covers. It was all a mind game really, having seen scary things in the past I would conjur them up in my mind at bed time or when I couldn’t physically see what was around me. But the funny thing is, when I got to my bed, being able to cover myself up was where I felt better. I could burrow under my covers and none of the awful things that I thought about could get me there. I was safe and had complete control. I wouldn’t come out and face the world until the sun came back out.

I imagine that living in spiritual darkness is a similar experience. 1 John 1:5-7 Tells us that “God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.”

I use to fear the images my mind would dream up at night or the possibility of someone else being in my apartment with me. (Which is silly because it was only 580 sq. ft. and I totally would have known) but the other side of that was that once I was buried under my covers, no one could see me. I was free to do whatever I wanted and no one would ever know unless I told them.

It’s easy to profess around other believers that we love God and fellowship with him daily. We sings songs of worship, we study our bibles, we join small groups, we pray…occasionally. But what are we doing in the darkness, where no one can see us? Who are we in our private time when it’s just us? Are we scrolling through social media, jealous in our hearts over the lives that all of our “friends” are leading? Are we gorging ourselves on food or substances to help us medicate our insecurity? Are we entertaining pornography or engaging in selfish sexual practices out of boredom or lust?

The Bible says that we are not able to truly fellowship with our Abba father or to be cleansed of our sins if we are not proactively living in the light. In the light is not only where God lives and who he is, but it is where truth lives, it is where forgiveness lives and it’s where our cleansing takes place. If we are not able to let go of the things that have us bound in the darkness, then there is no way that we could ever experience true fellowship and relation with God.

Our hearts are rebellious at best and unrepentant hearts is what pushes us further and further away from the light. Now that’s not to say that once you come in to the light you will be perfect, but you will have the opportunity to see yourself and to see God. You can be open, honest and transparent before the father when you fall and he is faithful and just to forgive.

It’s when we try and hide what we are struggling with and try to push God away while we get ourselves together, that we begin to make spiritual darkness our home.

I want to encourage you today and let you know that no shame, no fear, no sin, no nothing is strong enough to keep you from God and his marvelous light. So what have you given the power and authority over your life? Whatever it is isn’t worth it, and no match for our almighty, Abba. So whatever it is that you’re going through or may be struggling with, say no today.

Be intentional with your walk, come out into the light where God is able to see the beautiful child that he has created. He longs to cleanse us, affirm us, love us and guide us. All he needs is our sincerity and attention.

Will you give him all of you today?

Love you!

Eating from the table of Emotions

Eating from the table of Emotions

written by Amber

God has given us such a broad spectrum of emotion, and from infancy we are able to communicate our likes and dislikes in such an intuitive yet haphazard way. I believe that God has given us the ability to feel many different ways so that we may experience a deeply abundant life in Christ, where we can identify with others, empathize with others and maybe even gain a small perspective on how God feels towards us, as his children.

Though we’ve been gifted with different emotions, we’ve still got to be vigilant stewards of how they shape our everyday lives and decisions. We may not always have complete control over how we feel, but we do have control over how we respond to circumstances that may prompt our emotions to rule over us.

The Holy Spirit is a HUGE helper when it comes to self control and will often help us control negative, overzealous behavior, blatantly rude words toward others, or even protecting us from our own self inflicted emotional bouts.

When I originally thought of the concept: Eating from the table of Emotion, I saw a banquet table lined with the finest foods, but when I went over and saw the serving platters, attached to every delicious dish, was an emotion.  Sadness, next to doubt and joy, anger wedged in between depression and peace. I had the option to pile whatever onto my plate, savoring and feeling what I wanted to. But what I noticed was that there were only two serving spoons and they had already been used in things like grief and anxiety. I waited to see if the waiter would come to replace what had already been used, but no one ever came. I was forced to use the same spoon that had just been in anger to dole out my own happiness and joy.

Galations 5:22 reminds us of all the good fruit that the Holy Spirit develops in our lives, but it is not necessarily in the absence of feelings and emotions that may affect us in a negative way. Even though sometimes in life we’re forced to eat of sad and oppressive situations,  we still have the option to press into the Holy Spirit; partaking in joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness instead. It may not always be easy, but knowing that tough times effect everyone is a great forecast into the future and an amazing opportunity to trust that God will take care of us in those times.

Love Always,

Amber Danielle

What’s seated on the thrown of our Hearts?
Daily Devotional

What’s seated on the thrown of our Hearts?

written by Amber

Imagine that on the inside of our hearts there is a tiny little thrown nestled inside. It’s the epicenter of life filled with hopes, dreams, aspirations, goals and desires. Whatever is on the thrown of our hearts will effect every aspect of our lives.

This particular place in our hearts was made for Jesus to make his home. In Matthew 8:20, Jesus says “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the son of man has no place to even lay his head.” Some theologians would suggest that Jesus’ desire was to make a home on the inside of our hearts, so that he could always be with us. And what’s neat is that we are the home of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us.

Our hearts can become a cluttered place, and through the transitions of life and circumstance, the thrown of our hearts can be occupied by something or someone who isn’t Jesus. But when he enters our hearts and sees that the thrown is occupied by something else, he patiently waits to take a seat in his rightful place.

For example: We may find ourselves in situations where we are being tested or we have the opportunity to return to the old versions of ourselves who didn’t reverence or fear God, and didn’t care very much about his will or his way. Or we have the option to behave in a way that says I am no longer inspired by fear, unrighteous emotion or insecurity. I am now inspired by the word of God, I am inspired by the prompting of his Holy Spirit, and I am inspired to do right because I want Christ to be pleased more than I want to succumb to the immaturity of my flesh.

Let’s say for instance, that pornography is seated on the thrown of your heart. You think to yourself: It’s not hurting anyone else. It’s a much better alternative than actually engaging in sexual activity with someone else. Maybe you’re in a courtship and it’s something that you run to, to keep from overstepping your boundaries with your significant other. Either way, porn has found a way to desensitize you into thinking that it’s not “that bad” and that you’re not hurting anyone else. The truth is that you’ve allowed for pornography to come and destroy the idea of sex that God has created for marriage. You’ve allowed for it to distort your expectations and desires of what your sex life should be like after marriage and it touches multiple aspects of your life, even if you can’t visibly see it. So in the moment it may feel like a quick fix to your problems when you’re all alone, all the while it’s destroying our future marriages, courtships, relationships and dispositions. It’s giving a home to something in our hearts that has absolutely no intention or POWER to save us as Christ would–seated on the throne of our hearts where he belongs.

The beautiful thing about our relationship with Christ is that he has given us the gift of free will. He’s not forcing his way on to the thrown, or bullying us to do anything that we willfully don’t already want to do. Which in turn is an awesome opportunity to see ourselves and where we may need some improvement in our lives. The great thing about living for God is that even when we don’t feel like it, or we know all of the right things to do–and don’t do them–that we can ask God to give us the desire to please him and to live the way that he desires us to. We can be open and honest with him, relinquishing our feelings and emotions and submitting our lives unto him for repair.

The cool thing about free will is that it shows us ourselves and provides us an opportunity to be open and transparent about our lives with Christ. And it’s not that he doesn’t already know, because Christ is all knowing. It gives us the opportunity to make that cognitive decision to submit our lives unto Christ. If God had to force our hand or bully us into giving him what he deserved, he would never really know how we truly care for him or desire to live for him. If he were to force us to pray, worship or tell him that we love him daily, how would he ever really know if those actions were genuine or sincere? He wouldn’t, because the actions would be contrived and robotic.

So take advantage of the opportunity to give God the thrown of your heart, today! Right now! Jesus is the perfect gentleman and would never force us to do anything that we didn’t want to do, so make the decision today to let him in. He desires to lead and guide the direction of our lives, and to spend eternity with us in heaven when this life is over. So maximize the time that you have here on earth to accomplish the will that God has for your life, so that when we transition from this life to the next, we can celebrate in heaven, worshiping God all the days of our eternal life!

Love you!

NPC BIKINI: PEAK WEEK

NPC BIKINI: PEAK WEEK

written by Amber

REPENT! And turn to God, for the kingdom of heaven is near…and so is my very first NPC BIKINI COMPETITION!

I cannot believe that I am officially 2 days out from my 1st NPC Bikini Competition. I will be competing in the Seminole Classic bikini division and I could not be more excited for it! This last few weeks has been a complete mental challenged filled with self doubt, worries and fear. But the bible tells me that I have not been given the spirit of fear, but of POWER, and of LOVE and of a SOUND MIND. It has taken this verse, prayer and encouragement from a few close friends and my coaches to truly experience the peace that I have right now. God is truly gracing me to feel the best I ever have about this entire experience just a couple days out!

I’ve talked to a few of the young ladies who train on the same team as me, and they’re feeling how I felt a few weeks ago. Tired, run down, completely over this whole process, ready for it to be over. You may find yourself feeling the same way and I want to take the time to encourage you.

The best thing that my coach Ty could have told me one day when I was feeling pretty low was to “make myself the competition and not the other competitors. Bring your best package in and that’s all you can do. You can’t get any better, than best.” When he told me that, my perspective began to change.

Slowly but surely I began to pray for peace and it was almost like the scales had been removed from my eyes and I was able to really see myself and the gains and progress that I had made! I was really starting to see changes in my body, old clothes that I had kept were starting to fit again and my abs, which have never surfaced before in my life, were making DAILY appearances! My feelings had shifted like night and day and I am truly one of my biggest fans. If nobody claps for me, I will be the only one clapping. It’s so great to receive confirmation and affirmation from others but to feel it deep down within myself is everything! When motivation and joy are intrinsic and given by the Holy Spirit it is impossible for anything to come by and take it away. Not another competitor, not a certain persons attendance to your show, whether you place or not, nothing!

Competing for me has gone from wanting to win everything, to truly getting my body in the best aesthetic shape of my life. Competing for me is about progressing and looking the very best that I possibly can every time I hit that stage. Needless to say in spite of placing and trophy’s I am pretty darn excited to compete this weekend, and even more excited for my next show. I will have about 6 more weeks to dial it in and bring in an even tighter package before going into a great off season.

So if you’re feeling low, rest assured that God has your back and will send you just the right amount of encouragement to make it through the storm and trust him to bring you further!

Sincerely,

Amber Danielle

Fitness: It’s a Lifestyle & Journey!

Fitness: It’s a Lifestyle & Journey!

written by Amber

I believe that the goal of any legitimate health and fitness program should always be to become a lifestyle. If you think about it, most of the things that you’re doing from your diet to exercise takes effort, time, planning, and discipline. Why opt out of making healthy decisions daily, for a 30 day quick fix that will probably leave you in a worst off position then when you started your journey?

I’ve personally tried the skinny teas, DVD’s and master cleanse/detox e-books, and nothing has stuck. These were all temporary programs that only further frustrated me when trying to see major results in my body. I’m not saying that these things are bad or don’t work, but I believe that if they are not supplemented with mindful eating and maybe even a little more exercise outside of what they call for, seeing results will be minimal at best (at least for me.)

As I’m preparing for my first NPC competition, I’ve hit a few road bumps a long the way. Most recently I consumed much more sodium than I usually do throughout the day in my meals and I woke up the next day extremely bloated. I had never been that bloated my entire prep! But after me and my coach got to talking about what could have made this happen so close to show, we found that it was the new seasoning that I had picked up from the store and tried out on ALL of my meals the previous day! I was so surprised at how much water my body retained merely from adding more sodium into my diet. Since, I’ve consumed lots of water and had some pretty great sweat sessions, so my little tummy is back in business.

With that being said, I’ve made and am making some pretty drastic changes as my show day approaches. (8 days away to be exact!) But to see my body react so drastically to something that wasn’t normally a part of my meal plan was crazy. It showed me that all of these changes that I’ve been making were designed for me to live a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life. Though I may gain a few more pounds during my off season to build some muscle and fill out a little more, my body is prepared to eat more good things. “Clean” proteins and veggies and carbs. I put “clean” in quotations because in the body building world there is no real way to define clean. Food is fuel and if used correctly you’re able to use Poptarts if you want to obtain your fitness goals. I’m very interested in IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) but haven’t practiced it. I simply follow the meal plan that my coach provides for me. I’ll write about this another time, though!

So if you’re thinking about competing or just getting in shape or back in shape, think of it as a lifestyle. I know you’ve probably heard this a million times, but in order to meet, obtain and sustain your goals it’s true. Having abs or your dream body isn’t going to happen because you participated in a 30 fitness challenge or crash diet. Stay consistent and the results will come!

Sincerely,

Amber

Leaving Behind the Darkness
Daily Devotional

Leaving Behind the Darkness

written by Amber

“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.” Ephesians 5:8-9

Romance novels were my absolute favorite back in high school. Mesmerized by the world’s idea of love, I wanted to be in a relationship so badly. Every heroine I’d read about was always some gorgeous high school babe, who would find herself in a daring relationship with someone insanely attractive and sadly nothing like Christ. I was obsessed with the idea of belonging to someone, being wined and dined, pushing the boundaries of my innocence and getting married so that I could obtain the same “love” that I read about in dozens of novels a year.

Since, I learned that some forms of entertainment just aren’t worth revisiting. The bible says, “For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.” Ephesians 5:8-9 NLT

Sometimes we get so comfortable in God’s light and grace that we forget that Christ is the one who gives us the desire to be like Him. We develop this mentality that there are certain things that we can allow back into our lives because we’ve matured and grown in Christ or we’re nothing like we used to be. If we’re being honest with ourselves, then we would realize that our righteousness is not our own. That once we begin to live a life in the pursuit of God’s will that some things that we put down are meant to stay behind, never to be entertained again.

The novels that I used to read were filled with characters dominated by their lustful desires, pushing the boundaries of whatever beliefs they had and acting based on what would provide them the most pleasurable results. They did not fear God, and some of them blatantly questioned His existence. I remained in the dark throughout high school allowing my mindset to be inculcated with what the sexual aspect of marriage would be like, when “the one” would find me, picturing my life in the place of the heroine’s. It was a massive waste of time and kept me from truly being able to cultivate a real relationship with Christ.

It is God’s desire to hold us close each and every day, protecting us from the things that we cannot see ourselves. Destruction, heartbreak, sexual immorality, low self-esteem, and senseless violence are just a few things that God is trying to protect us from. Through the death and resurrection of Christ we are able to be as close to God as we desire and truly live a life that is “good and right, and true!”

Prayer: Abba I thank you that your light shines within me, giving me the desire to live in the perfect will that you have for my life. I pray that you will show me the things of darkness that I am entertaining and escort me to the way of escape that you’ve provided. Allow me to be sensitive to your Holy Spirit, ruling out what is and isn’t acceptable for me to entertain. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

A Man of His Word
Daily Devotional

A Man of His Word

written by Amber

“His faithful promises are our armor and protection.” Psalms 91:4

If there is one thing that I admire the most about my daddy, it’s his generosity. Ever since I can remember he has always indulged in making sure I had everything that I wanted and then some. Whether he was being deployed or simply running out to the store, the promise of bringing me something back was always wrapped around my eager little heart. No matter what happened that day at school, or with my siblings, or at home, nothing could deter my excitement. My daddy had promised to bring something home for me.

I can’t help but think about how our Abba Father is exactly the same way. The word actually says that “His faithful promises are our armor and protection.” Psalms 91:4 NLT

The absolute comfort and excitement that I felt by my daddy making little promises to me, was amazing. It sustained my hopeful spirit throughout the day and gave me something to look forward to, but God’s promises are designed to provide what mere human generosity could never obtain. God has made so many promises to us so that in times of uncertainty or hardship we have his word to sustain us, to lift our spirits and to comfort us in times of calamity.
Furthermore this verse says that God’s promises “are our armor and protection.” There are so many times in life where adversity has the opportunity to rear its ugly head, circumstance makes living a little stressful and sometimes we’re left feeling just plain bullied and beat up. But God’s promises are there to shield and protect us from it all. Just as we cling to the promises of our mortal father’s, allowing them to set the thermostat of our emotions and behavior, so we must do the same with our promises from God. Unlike man, God’s promises are faithful and will never leave us disappointed. His mind is always stayed on us and his intentions toward us are always good!

But where are we able to see what God has promised us? How would we ever know what it is that he has in store for us? Reading our bible is essential. There are so many promises and vows that God has made to us, not because of who we are, but because of all that he is. Prayer is also very important, and being able to listen to Holy Spirit after moments of prayer and quiet time are crucial. I truly believe that God is the best encourager there is. His promises are so strong that they can literally form an impenetrable armor and protection around our hearts, minds, desires and actions. All we have to do is trust and believe that he will bring in to our lives what has been promised and our tender hearts will always be filled with Christ’s joy.

Prayer: Abba I thank you that your promises are so much more trustworthy than any others. I thank you that they were designed not only to build hope in my heart, but to protect me from the things of this world. God I thank you that you’re filled with unfailing love and faithfulness and that your promises to me are birthed from the intimate place of your perfect will for my life. In Jesus name, Amen.

Sustained in Jesus
Letters of Love

Sustained in Jesus

written by Amber

I felt the Holy Spirit asking me to share this letter with you all:

“I’ve created you to be sustained by me and me alone. There is absolutely nothing else in the world that can sufficiently sustain you, while having the absolute best and perfect intentions as I do for you. Not even your own body that I hand crafted and designed was made to sustain the soul that I gave life to years ago. I’ve made it so that everything about your earthly life is temporary. Relationships, job status, location, and time. You don’t even look the same way that you did when I woke you up three days ago. Rest in my unfailing love and perfection. My son Jesus is your inheritance, which makes you the richest kings and queens that I’ve ever designed. Trust and know that my plans for you are so much more than the world you live in. If they weren’t you’d already have everything that you need. Continue to have faith in the return of my son and your savior Jesus Christ. Seek him and his kingdom first and he’ll add all of the rest. Start building your life of eternity with us now, and the fruit of it will be waiting when I call you home. But until then, let me sustain you. It would be my pleasure and greatest delight.”

Sincerely,

Your Abba Father
